Learn more about my training and skills...
I completed my undergraduate Bachelors of Psychology degree (2006) with Social Work as extra-curricular Major 3rd and 4th year degree equivalent (2007) and post-graduate degree Masters in Clinical Psychology and Community Counselling at the University of Stellenbosch (2010). I was trained in various psychotherapeutic modalities during my Masters Training, such as:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Person-Centred therapy (PCT)
Psychodynamic therapy
Solution focused therapy (SFT)
I have since then completed a number of specialized training workshops such as:
Eye Movement Integration (EMI) Therapy. I am an internationally accredited EMI practitioner, having received advanced EMI training from Minnie Loubser, who was trained by Danie Beaulieu herself.
Ego State Therapy (EST) trained Elzette Fritz, under the Milton H.Erickson Institute of South Africa (MEISA). More recently I have undergone further training by Minnie Loubser in Resource Therapy, similar in theory to Ego State Therapy, developed by Gordon Emmerson under whom Minnie was trained, which facilitates the release of developmental trauma - such as holding on to the critical voices in our minds or other negative life events, trauma and/or the resolution of inner conflict - without the need to engage in any hypnosis.
Narrative therapy training with Elize Morkel, to fulfill my passion of improving connection and relationships within couples, parents and children, or even an individual’s relationship with themselves and their past. Often we pathologise our entire identity, and our childhood history, and the need arises to re-author our problem-saturated stories to allow for a sense of agency (choice) in terms of our preferred future outcomes and foster hope. I engage in regular Narrative therapy consultation groups to keep updated with this field which helps decentralise the role of the therapist, and aims to empower clients, especially those marginalised based on gender, race, religion, sexuality or other categories of diversity which often elicits discrimination.
Brain Working Recursive Therapy(BWRT) I completed the my level 2 training in the new revolutionary BWRT with Rafiq Lockhat, and have been amazed at its effectiveness in dealing with anxiety, phobias such as social anxiety, public speaking anxiety, and many other negative events from childhood, trauma including assault, robbery, sexual abuse and molestation, traumatic bereavement and complicated grief to name but a few examples!
My strength lies in my flexibility and innovation, adapting my holistic approach with different clients in accordance with their needs and presenting problem(s). I do therapy in both Afrikaans and English.
I do not currently do any psychometric assessments or intellectual assessments for school readiness, examination time exemption nor any psycho-legal or forensic work or reports.
Get in touch
I know that finding the right therapist to embark with on your therapeutic journey and overcome the challenges you are currently facing is a choice not to be taken lightly.
Thats why the first consultation is so important, to discuss your needs, presenting problem, your goals for therapy, and fees.
Please note that I do offer reduced cash fees based on income level, which can be re-negotiated depending on the duration of the therapy process. I am registered with the Board of Healthcare Funders and can claim from most major medical aids, in which case standard medical aid rates apply and no co-payments are necessary.
